I am looking at power filters for my new 50 gallon tank and would love help choosing which model to get.
It's a little overwhelming trying to decide what will work best for me!

Here are my three choices:
1) Marineland Penguin 200 Biowheel
2) Aqueon Quietflow 55/75
3) Fluval C3 or C4

In your experience, what the pros/cons of any of these models??
I have been reading the online reviews and like most things, the opinions are mixed.

I would really appreciate your help on this one!
Thanks so much

The Fluval C3 does not have enough water flow or mech filtration capability for a 50 gal, ime. They are great filters and very quiet, but if you go with that route go with the c4 for sure.

I have a penguin 350 and have had no trouble with it. Great flow with 2 bio wheels for bb. I do however have the intake in the top 1/3 of the tank as hob's have a tendency to suck up sand. I also have an Aquatop CF400 with uv that I run in the same tank.

I have a penguin 100, 200, and 4x 350. I love them. I recently had one "die" but after I looked at it, a whole anubias plant had grown into the intake choking it and since we pulled the whole filter to clean it out, there were over 100 MTS in the filter. After we rinsed it and removed the plant, bam started right up. I haven't had any problems with them. Other then penguins I use the emperor's and have some old whispers.

But I've never used aqueon or fluval.

I love BioWheels. My 55g has a Penguin 350 and Emperor 400 on it.

For me, 29 gal and up is when I shift to canisters....don't have the time to mess with numerous HOBs and their limited mechanical filtration capabilities...

dont have oppinions. ever since i got sponge filters, i use them constantly :) infact selling all my HOB filters and canisters and only keeping sponge filters.

Penguin and Emperor bio-wheels are the way to go as far as HOBs go, IMO. Most filters have good points and bad points, what kinda tank they are bein' used on makes a difference in performance, and what it really comes down to is personal preference.
