When can I sell fry?

I know of a couple of LFS in the area I'm originally from that would do something like 1/3 or 1/2 of the adult selling price, which, for a $10-12 fish isn't so bad...a molly or guppy, however, might not be worth it if it weren't for the shear number of fry you'll be getting. But again, stores are going to be different when it comes to those types of things. Keep in mind that even with shipping costs not included for the store usually they would be getting HUGE orders of fish all at the same time, so shipping isn't such a big percentage of the cost compared to a hobbyist ordering a few fish online.

Yeah the mollies are $2.50-4.00 so I wanted $1.50 for them, the glowies go for $7 there and I wanted at least half that, and I can't remember guppy price but I think they're like $2 a piece and I have a feeling they will want to give me $0.50 but I'd prefer half on those too.

Of course I will talk to them much more about it but with them avoiding shipping and me living only a mile away I figure asking for half isn't too bad unless they're selling them for over 3x what they paid. I'm honestly not sure what a LFS normally pays for large amounts of fish

Glowies? As in glowfish? You can't sell those...or at least you shouldn't at the risk of being sued by the company that has a patent on them.

Yeah, I hope it works out. It doesn't need to be making me loads of money but it would e great to have something at the end of the rainbow here XD

My blue angels are what I'm counting on making me good money. I've never seen them below $20 and I'm thinking about selling them on here for half that (or even less if there's other blue sellers that sell for less because, like I said, I don't want to screw anyone) and I'm counting on that to support the hobby for me (specifically for salt mix and filter replacement and stuff)

Yes as in those. I've had a couple threads on here about it.

http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?263930-Babies!

That one and one more I go into about how I found out it wasn't smart to do but that I was still going to sell this accidental brood (I moved them from a tank and then the eggs they dropped hatched and we just happened to notice them) to the LFS or on here. If I was running some sort of breeding op I might've been worried but less than 20 fish that I just don't have room for doesn't bother me too much =)

Theres a specific point I made in that thread where I found out that glowies were originally are sterile by the company to avoid breeding. Obviously they aren't anymore which either means the company isn't too worried about it or someone smuggled out non sterile fish to make big money or both. That alone shows me that if this company really wanted to go after anyone they'd have bigger fish to fry than me (no pun intended lol)

Now we're talking with blue angels. Not only are they a fish that will sell well (angels in general sell very well) but they are also a hard to find strain. I think you could negotiate a pretty nice price for them, and since you'll get a good amount of fry with each spawning it will definitely be worth your while. Keep in mind though that raising angels is a bit more difficult than live bearers. They require more space and will really benefit from a very varied diet.

Yeah I have been trying to find a good diet. I have a frozen food I jst got called cichlid delight that they are going nuts for and it says it helps with growth so when I can get the babies big enough to eat it I think I will go with that. The other issue is what to feed from the start. I use Hikari first bites jst because I don't have any live cultures but I'd lives should probably get some when that time comes. Maybe use daphnia and BBS 3 times a day either switching or mixed?

They don't mind accidental breeding (after all, I don't know how well fish abstinence would work) but it is against the law to sell Glofish, in any form. Now, sometimes we do follow the "it's not illegal until I get caught" train of thought, also make sure the store knows the risk for legal action as well. If they knowingly hold up their end of the deal (I hope they are aware of this anyways), then that's their problem...but keep in mind that all it takes is someone for the company to make an example of to get their point across. They certainly didn't go through the process of acquiring patents and then not care about losing out on potential business. It's putting you big toe across the line and hoping it doesn't get chopped off ;)

Yeah I understand. I was the one that told them it wasn't allowed and they were all about buying them.

Honestly, someone told me this. "you were never shown a license agreement, never required to sign one, never saw it posted in the LFS and the LFS was never made to sign it and ever are aware of it either so that's all you really need". Obviously at this point it is probably moot as I have discussed it in at least 3 topics on here which could be used against me lol. I do appreciate you guys looking out for me though ^^ maybe I'll just find some people interested in starting a school on here and make them pay just shipping. Lol you guys are making me nervous XD

Don't forget about store credit. I know people that have wall to wall tanks and their operating cost are virtually zero. And they still make some dough too. If you can work out a deal with a lfs for some credit and some wholesale you'll be better off. Lfs are willing to give more in credit than cash.

Since the LFS knowingly purchased them illegally, and as a larger party of interest, it would make more sense to me that they would focus their attack on them and not the "lowly hobbyist." If I were in that situation, they wouldn't get much money out of me LOL.

I just wanted to get their own legal language out there in case anyone else was considering the risks and also so it doesn't seem like I or anyone else on the site is encouraging an illegal activity.
