When did I get so picky?

It's referred to as discernment and refinement. The more you learn, the less you buy on impulse. You are able to qualify what you want and what will work with your setups. In the beginning you may have bought without a clear objective in mind. That gives way to themes and purposeful landscaping.
I too, am lucky enough to have a lfs that will order for me. They will order plants, equipment and livestock. They also give me awesome deals at times.
I went from tanks with plants stuck in anywhere to tanks with more aesthetic arrangements.

I am glad you started doing that msjinkzd! If it weren't for you I probably wouldn't have ever received my first rabbit snail. I still love them by the way got an entire tank devoted to yellow shrimp and snails.
I have asked one of my larger local LFS ( you guys know them I am sure) to order a sponge filter for me and was turned down. I actually wanted 1/2 dozen and explained that I probably wasn't the only person in the ATL that would buy them if they started carrying them but ummm...NO.
