i have read a lot on treating for Ich the past few days because it appears that my tank has it...at least one recently purchased fish does.

from what i have read, raising the heat and adding salt seem to be the most effective.

Now, if i am only using salt, is it still nessisary to remove the carbon filter?
or do they only suggest that with specialized store bought medications?

no need to remove the carbon. the only thing that will remove the salt from the water is a water change. be sure not to add more salt when topping off from evaporation since salt doesnt evaporate with the water.

no you need not remove the cabon. i would say try salt, you should succeed.

2 TBSP per 10 gallons. raise temp to 80*

thanks for the quick reponses. i am three days into the treatment and noticed an article that talked about removing the filter. it didnt make sense to me, but i figured i would double check and make sure i wasnt doing everything wrong.
