Where do you buy big rocks?

You don't need to boil rocks. You risk injury to yourself as they may shatter. Just give 'em a good scrubbing and soak them. Drain and soak. repeat until the water is clear. give 'em a scrub with a mild bleach solution if you're worried about anything alive on them. then soak and drain a few times.

Q

thank you! boiling is not a cure-all. :)

if there is a quarry or mining operation nearby, you should be able to get some for cheap, as well.

I got the cheapest rock ever... went down to the local jetti, don't know how close to the ocean you are, and pulled out the scraps that washed up on shore. Bleached and boiled them and voila, dark, textured slate looking rock for free. FYI the jetti rock in Jersey in inert, I don't know what kind of rock they use in NY.

Wow is this all great information on finding rocks or buying them. I am looking for several rocks that I want to use for my hardscape. It may take several trips to the shops but I know what I need to have in order to achieve the visual I have in mind.
