Where does Algae Come from?

No real reason why I'm asking this besides the fact that i'm curious.

Algae is a living thing, so it cannot simply appear out of nowhere. It must come from somewhere. Is it in the fish food? On incoming plants? What if you treat incoming plants?

How does it just appear....and for that matter, how to various forms just appear?

Just wondering and I can't seem to find a good answer in my web searching

spores can probably be found anywhere...maybe in the tap water, plants, even in the air

yup spores. same way mold/fungus grows on foods.
