where the sea?

Home Depot, Lowes, Ace

If it isnt called pool filter sand its called silica sand.

No filter sand at a pool supply store?! That's odd!! I got my sand at a store that specializes in hot tubs. Have you checked your Yellow Pages for maybe some different locations?

I got my sand at the local supermarket. They called it play sand. I tested it and it's aragonite sand commonly used in reef tanks. My water is sufficiently high that it is not dissolving, at least to my eyes. With 1/3 water changes daily it should show if it was dissolving. As an added benefit, my angels are doing excellently in the hard water, even spawning regularly.

It cost $4.99 for a 60 lb bag.

Angels are acidic(soft) water fish, they come from south america. I think they would be a lot happier in some softer water.

On the other hand, LFS's here have trouble keeping angels in stock and are always looking for a reliable source of quality stock that can deal with our local water. Mine spawn every two weeks like clockwork. Sooooooo, I guess I am just preparing my fish to be a part of one special LFS's future breeding stock (if I can find the time to get there).
