where to get fish

I was just wondering if I could get some advice on where to find quality goldfish. Everytime we get goldfish from the lfs they end up getting ich. We have a 55gal tank completely cycled. We check the water levels everyday and do the necessary water changes. The temp of the tank is around 78 degrees (maybe this is stressing the fish out?). We live in Hawaii so the tank temp doesn't rise and fall too dramatically. This is currently our second round of fish in the tank (and ich). We have one orange oranda and two assorted fantails. Maybe three fish in this tank is too many? We love our babys and would do anything to get them through this. Any suggestions, in case they don't make it, would be appreciated. Thanks :)
 
If ich is a persistant problem, I'd look into a UV sterlizer. They're very cheap on Ebay, and can pay for themselves in asprin costs alone when dealing with a tough parasite infestation. I'm sure there are lots of sources on the island for goldfish. I'd check local classifieds, too. Good luck with them!
 
How can I cool the water down to a consistent cool temp? Do they sell chillers? Also, I think I have read in this forum that it's okay to have them at that temp as long as it doesn't fluctuate. I guess that info wasn't too acurate. Thanks for the advice!
 
The main problem is that 99% of goldfish carry a parasite and should always be quarantined for at least a month before being added to a main tank.
Salting the quarantine tank to .3% will get rid of most parasites, particularly ich.
Fish get stressed from moving around and thats when the parasites move in.
The temperature of the tank is high, are you adding extra air in? Using a fan across the top of the water may help but if your temps are constantly at that level then there isnt much you can do. It just keeps the metabolism of the fish high so they dont live as long as they should, though i dont know if theres any scientific work to back that up.
 
We have the bubble wands running along the entire backside of the tank. It's almost impossible to use a fan to cool the tank because we can't have the hoods off due to some very curious kitty cats. I'll have to look into chilling the water. Does anyone know what some strange looking brown spots on my quarantined goldie might be. He was the first one to get the ich so we moved him to a quarantine tank immediately. Unfortunately the other two left behind developed the ich shortly after. I hope we can beat it this time!! I'll try to post a pic some time today.

Goldfish can live quite comfortably at temperatures even up to 78 degrees F. At least in my experience. 80-82 might be pushing it though.
 
your goldfish will be fine at temps up to 76ish. above that they might be stressed, but i doubt that would cause the ich. when treating ich, one of the best things to do is to raise the temperature. the higher temperature speeds p the life cycle of the ich parasite and with medication, gets rid of them much easier than with meds alone.
