Where to get slate?

This is the "rock" I created last night from 1 box of slate tile (5 pieces). The large assembly is about 24" long, 9" high, and 4" deep. It is actually 3 separate glued assemblies, each 3" high so I can fit it into the tank easily. I think the colors will look great once it is wet and in the tank. It is meant mostly as a backdrop since my goldfish destroy every plant I put in there. There is also a large piece of driftwood that fits in amongst the rocks. Incidentally, the board I assembled on is the same size as the tank so I knew how to lay it all out.

Good luck with your project!

I get slate tiles at Home Depot. They have two kinds. You want the plain unfinished ones not the ones that have varnish or lacquer on them.

Well i found a landscaping place and walked around picking up pieces from outside. Ended up with about 60 lbs of it for 40.00 CDN. Not too bad I don't think. We busted up a lot of the bigger pieces outside, and I've just finished boiling everything up. I have a lot of different colors and shapes... not too sure what to do with them now. I'll post a pic tomorrow of the "pile" Maybe some of you experts may have an idea or two. lotekfish, I love what you have done. I don't think I'll be able to do that with mine because of the odd shapen pieces. I also want to be sure I have a "cavelike" aquarium.
