Where to start?

OK I have no idea where to start with my 20g tank. Can someone give me step by step, what to do?

what kind of fish are you thinking about keeping? going to do live plants or stick with plastic?

Im still not sure. I will be going to the LFS agin to see what kind are I like. Also can I do a tropical setup up with live plants?
