Watcher74, I guess the craft 'tufa' gets its name from the rock, because it's pourous and lightweight.
Tuolumne, so far just a hobby, I've made several statues (free) for family. If somebody expressed an interest I'd probably sell, but I'm not quite sure what I'd charge... it's a LOT of hours to make the forms and then apply the tufa.
Thanks, Joe! Also, part of the time I was away from here, we were on vacation in Nova Scotia. I set up a temporary page with a few pics of our vacation, mostly for my floaty pen trade friends - so ignor the floaty pen references! If you're interested... the most exciting time was tidal bore rafting on the Shubanacadie River. This is when the tide coming in (from the Bay of Fundy) reacts with the water going out from the river and creates a lot of turbulance and big waves. Like white water rafting without the rocks. http://members.shaw.ca/pete.carriere/ns_pics.html
Nice pics! Makes me want to go north! We have a "Liverpool" here, but it has the Illinois River going through it. Are floaty pens those pens with a liquid in the top and a boat or something floating in it?
Also..DH and I were wondering what tufa was, thanks for the info. Not that we'll be making anything in the near future.
nursie, yes, those are the kinds of pens I collect; and trade all over the world. Right now I have 910 pens. The biggest collector is Miranda W. in The Netherlands, she has over 9,200. So I'm just small potatoes...
Matak, I had a hard time calling not calling it tofu at first; now it's the other way around and I call tofu tufa.
