I have real plants in the garden, real plants in my tank but I cannot abide watching a real tree die for Christmas so my Christmas tree is a very good fake 
Actually I have silk plants in my fancy goldfish tank because I got fed up with giving them fresh plants every week, they even try to munch on java fern !!.
I set up my planted tank because I got hooked on the look of real plants in the aquarium and have stocked with fishes that aren't plant eaters, I have to say I spend more time watching the fish in this tank than in the "fake" tank and am now considering selling the goldies and setting their tank up as a planted tank.
If you don't want the high maintenance you don't have to have co2 and high lighting, there are plants that will grow well with normal lighting - I practice this myself and it works very well, my tank has a very lush look and the fish seem to benfit as the water quality is IMHO much improved.
By the way you danios should be fine with plants.
