What is the best external filter on the market for a 36 to 48 inch ( lenght)aquarium..
Best makes fluval etc
Will probably start off with a planter appisto tank, from there go to a mbuna tank probably 1-2 years down the line.
Thanks...

Marineland C-series. C220 for a 36, c360 for bigger. Awesome cansiters, and easy to find cheap on ebay.

I have no experience with fluval's, but from a lot of people on forums I'm apart of I see a lot of people say they work at first but then have major leaking issues.

I though personally have experience with Rena XP3 and a Eheim 2026. My XP3 is on a 127g turtle tank with 2 turtles and 6 fish. It keeps that tank crystal clear. Filter is quiet and cleaning it is so easy. I'm actually going be getting another XP3 for that tank just so I don't have to clean it as often since turtles are messy.

My eheim 2026 is on a 37g long turtle tank. At first I heard mixed reviews on eheim filters but I was in the market for a filter and my petsmart had the eheim 2026 plus media package for $49.99 and I couldn't beat that price. So I bought it and went home and hooked it up. It's been about 3 months and that thing has been running amazing. I am very happy with the filter. Keeps my tank crustal clear and runs quiet as well. I haven't cleaned it yet so I know nothing on how easy it is but I bet it's easy cause set up was easy.

I highly recommend either the Rena XP3 or the Eheim canisters.

Like I said though fluval's I haven't heard good things on, the only model I have heard good things of for fluval's is there FX5 that's rated up to 400g.

Hope my info helps! Update us on what you get!
