:)Hi, so its about time, im getting a new filter! Now im going to get around 300 dollars for a filter and i know there are different types of filters out there for 300, so my question is which filter should i get for my 55 gal, it has to be canister filter under 300$.ANy advise or opinions are appreciated!

Fluvals are kind of shaky, I've been hearing not so nice things about them, add to the fact that I really wouldn't trust a filter on e-bay. For $300, a Rena XP3 or Ehiem would make excellent filters. I've also heard good things about the Marineland H.O.T. Magnum 350 filters.

Really their are many opinions on this topic, I'm just telling you what people are going to suggest.

I would suggest you get an Eheim Pro II 2026. About $230 bucks with media.

ya the eheim pro rocks

Rena XP3, Eheim 2026 or Marineland 360 are all good choices for your 55g. "T"

I had a similar search for filters. I went with the Rena XP3. It was the best choice I made. That's my $0.02.

how about you take $15 to go get a used 20g long, $20 in glass baffles, $5 for some silicone, $20 for some PVC to make an overflow and return, $20 for some media and $40~$50 for a mag5 or a QU2200 and put together a sump then spend the remaining $140 on some nice plants.

Another vote for the Filstar XP3 (though Eheim is a good choice, too). :thm:
