Which fish have long lifespans??

I would hazard a guess, that the only people adequitly equiped to handle a sturgeon, would be a public aquarium like sea world etc. I watched a documentry on reviving the sturgeon in Manitoba Canada. They were tagging and releasing some that were over 5 feet long. They were using a shark cradle, to take them out. The white sturgeon is the largest freshwater fish in North America. The stats I have read is they can get to be 1500 pounds, 20 feet in length and can live 100 years or more. They are amazing creatures.

Theres oscars..... up to 13 years... my oscar is only a few months old maybe 7-8 i dont no.

The shovelnose sturgeon is one that doesn't get super big and would probably work in a private aquarium. They shouldn't have too serious of requirements since they live in the Mississippi River!

Besides goldfish, are there any types of freshwater fish that have a long life span??

Ive had a black shark for almost 30 years from an old setup.I know hes too big now for my 100 gallon but he doesnt eat the other inhabitants in the tank (noticeably) but I keep a few feeders in there 4 when I go away .you can hand feed them & is the only living thing that can go in a hipo's mouth .lol freshwater black sharks are hipopotimuses tooth brushes .hundreds of them go into the mouth & the hipo almost double joints open for them, truely freaky when you see them 2 inches in an aquarium store when they are ussualy about a foot long <><

i have heard koi can live 50-70 years and sometimes even 100. maybe its jsut a myth i dont know....

feel free to correct me if im wrong.

i read in a book that the average for koi is 30 yrs.? forgot the title of the book..

anyway anyone here knows how long the lifespan of an arapaima is? it gets pretty big right? :idea2:

When I was just little, my parents set up the 10g and we had an angel fish last the longest which was 4 years. My parents barley cleaned the tank at all though. Like twice a year. Yeah and thats pretty good for a fish to survive that long when its being cleaned that little. How long is a normal Angel's life span?
