Cool, I thought you were referring to lumens (light output). :)

I do know a little about lighting from working at a really nice LFS... at least enough to know what kinds of lighting are better for specific applications.
 
Yeah, I think eventually lighting will switch to LED but we are far from there yet. There are current proposals to phase out incandescent lights for more effecient screw-in fluorescents, and probably after that happens in a few years LEDs will be the next thing. But currently most LED's are not as efficient as some T5's or other high efficiency lights like sodium, surprisingly. And when some start to dim or fail its hard to replace individual ones when there in cluster of like a hundred. But I think the technology will still improve, and hopefully get a little cheaper.

If you are worried about energy costs, consider how much heat those things are putting out. My 4x65w CF fixture pumps out a ton of heat with the fan on it constantly. It's like an extra radiator in the room making the AC kick in, especially brutal in the summer. People running those Tek T5 units report they run cool and don't need a fan at all.
