which of these fish should i get?

on MFK, i got the OK to add an abk or a hypostomus punctatus. im not discrediting you, im simply saying that i like getting multiple opinions... however, the pleco was iffy, so i definitely wont get that now. and, ill probably get the single blue gourami.

I also got my info from this page on MFK. It says 50 gallon minimum. But I guess they do grow slowly.

I also thought that hypostomus punctatus was the name for a common pleco? As in gets huge pleco. SInce you already have 3 plecos I think it's good that you don't get another, especially a huge one.

I think you need more mid swimming or upper swimming fish. The bottom seems a little crowded IMO.

I think the gourami would be fine.

ok, ill take that into consideration.
also, H. punctatus gets just over 10". big, but not huge IMO. and im definitely not gonna get the pleco now.

the gourami is a difinite possibility.

If by they you mean Plecos then you dead wrong. I had a pleco in a 30 gal tank, with the same opinion, and it out grew the tank in about 5 months. It was a foot long before i gave it to a relative.

you tank is already well stocked. just add to the schools you have, some of your fish need to be kept in larger groups than you have. angelfish get pretty big. i know some people like to cram as many fish as they can into their tanks, but the angel alone is big enough to take up the whole tank, plus all the other ones you have in there. more fish=more maintenance.

if i get more fish, i will get rid of some.
i just wanna figure out what i would be getting first.

I agree with everyone who has responded about adding to the fish you already have. You have put schooling fish in a tank without a proper school so it is time to fix that. When you say the oto's always die, are you QTing them? This is a critical step in the process of introducing more fish to your tank. I also would not get all your new fish at once. That much waste can cause a mini cycle that nobody like to deal with.

This is what I would do:
6-8 colombian tetras
6 oto cat
1 angel
1 ruby shark
1 whiptail pleco
1 bristlenose pleco
1 clown pleco
1 blue acara

Then you can be done and enjoy your tank!

unfortunately, my dad will not let me start a QT tank. he wont even let me keep one running for a few weeks to QT fish. i think i will get rid of the oto and tetras, and get a blue gourami and knifefish. or perhaps just et rid of the oto and get more tetras and a knife fish.

If you click the link I provided you would see I was referring to the brown knife fish.

Sorry i over reacted. :o
Also my security blocked it for some reason.
