Just For The Sake Of Conversation I'm Going To Ask. What Is Everyones Favorite Central/south American Cichlid And Why? For Whatever Reason You Think They Are Cool Lets Hear It.

I'll Start. A Male Red Devil Because He Is The Baddest Mother There Is. Also Very Attractive.

Discus

Large, peaceful, gorgeous fish.

I have never been fond of the large SA cichlids, I guess because I don't like their habit of rearranging things :D. I would have to go with any of the Apistogramma's. They stay small, they are very peaceful and I like the looks.

I kinda like my large RD. He has a attitude on who is charge of the tank. He thinks he is , but I will prove to be the winner! But rearranging is a understatement mine ....well makes a complete mess. We fight during every water change. Its like going into battle. You would think that he would get used to water changes after 2 years....nope.

My current favorite (doesn't this shift for most folks?) is the bolivian ram. Small, peaceful, good parent and they make such a cute devoted pair.

yes it does seem to change fairly often for me too. right now its the RD i had one for a while and got rid of him because he killed everything, even my plecos, and now i wish i still had him.

I had a texas cichlid like your RD...he lived alone (his choice - all other tankmates perished) for 10 years. Blinkie, was one heckuva "wet pet", and I still miss him although it's been about 7 years since he died.

Discus and Apistogramma. Discus because if you can find the right breeder, are just as mindblowing as any coral\saltwater fish. I like Apisto's because of their dwarf size but again you go to the rite place, they pack so much flavor! But even natural caught natural bred look great to me as well.
