Hi guys,

I'm planning on keeping a small school of silver dollars in my new 75G tank. I was also planning to add a few live plants to it.

Since silver dollars are voracious herbivores, which plants can I safely keep in the tank without them being chewed up by the silver dollars?
Or are there no such plants at all?

Thanks

Agreed

onion plants, crypts, some anubias, and java fern have all been reported to have been successfully kept with SDs.

So...there's scope for hope...

Thanks mate! :)

I tried all of these with my SD..........who ever reported that ......LIES!!! They didn't actually eat the anubias, just tore all of the leaves to shreds so that the only thing left was the roots and rhizome. The leaf bits just floated through the water until either the filter sucked them up or I used a fish net to corral them and take them out. The rest of the plants were salad. The only plant I have been able to have in the tank with them is floating frogbit and duck weed. They eat it, but it grows faster than they can eat.

I have had luck with sessiliflora. Yes, you could keep 4 SD in a 75 and if you are anal about your maintenance you could do 6 but no other fish.

My 2 5" Sds think even the plastic plants are tasty.....

Me Too!! Many years ago I put a school of SD into my then heavily planted tank (Anubius, Java Ferns, Moss, ect) after a week or so, it was a desert!!! They ate everything!!!
