I might have a dumb question but an ro unit does it hook up to a water line ur house or in ur tank. I just started a 14 gal biocube and people have been telling me to get one, ok but how do I use it and how will it turn my tap into pure water. If someone can give me a break down from opening the package to using it that would be wonderful

So what you're saying is that I can hook it up to my garden hose fill a bucket of water and take it off and that water will be pure

Yes, that's what I'm saying :). You'll want more than that, though. It won't even be worth your time. Find a large reservoir (preferably food-safe), get a float valve with your RO/DI unit (most already come with an automatic shut-off, so all you'll need is the float) and that way it will shut it off automatically without flooding it.

i dont have the means to run a water source to the tank so thats out of the question, but i dont mind spening a day filling jugs up and saving them for top offs or water changesto mix salt in of course wow, i thought it would be more difficult then that

I'm not saying running water to the tank, but you should find a larger reservoir from which to take water. I think you'll disagree with your own statement later when you find out how much trouble it is.

oh i get it set up say like a 10 gal tank near a water supply have the ro unit on the tank and get a floater and just have the water already there for me to take and when it drops down it will turn on automaticly. im moving out in a couple of months so i think im gunna have to wait to do that until i am established in the new house

you dont have to use a tank you can use somthing as simple as a plastic tote to something as big as a 55g drum that is food safe. now if you use a tote you can leave a powerhead in it and when it is full turn it so the RO system stays off and then you can mix your water up directly in the tote, siphon off however much water youll need for your WC then turn the RO back on and it will fill itself back up again. you can mount it anywhere in your house/garage where you have a cold waterline. you just T the line off before the faucet, and hook the RO/DI unit to the T'd off portion.
