What is a good light colored, medium to small size grain substrate that would be good for a 10 gal with these plants.

1 Anacharis
2 Blood Stargrass
3 Japanese Fans
1 Dwarf Lily Plant
4 Dwarf Onions
1 Asian Ambulia
10 Tall Sagittaria subulata
1 small red-spot Ozelot sword
8 Crypt Walkeri
3 Java Ferns
1 Java Moss

thanks that looks like my only choice.

No. If you want light colored, medium to small gravel, get Schutlz's Aquatic Soil (aka Profile). It's at home depot and is about 6$ for a 10 lb bag. Can't beat it for the price, especially since what you're looking for describes it to a T.

BTW - That sounds like an AWFUL lot of plants for 10g. And that ozelot sword will outgrow that tank fairly soon.

They are part of a package and I won't use all of them. thanks for the substrate info.

I don't find it as light as people say. I use it exclusively in my tanks. However, if you're growing ground covers, once they get rooted...its weight doesn't matter:D

Some people who find it too light weight mix some regular gravel into it to add substance...

For the price...I'll suck it up:p

My opinion is there are only 2 substrates I'd use in the planted tank, and that's Flourite or Onyx Sand.

I don't care much for the (newer - I think it's more recent..), RED Flourite. It looks way too red.....
