Whiskey barrel pond

I read that this could be illegal to do, since they are not native fish to the area. Correct me if i am wrong, please.

Otherwise, i was also told about wintering the fish in another container (or the small portable pond) over the winter in a outdoor shed, covering them with enough water to keep wet, but not feeding so that they hibernate essentially. Could someone else fill me in on this? Does it actually work?

well, thats what some people i sued to wait on at the lfs said. they put the fish in a garbage can (cleaned) with an air pump for the winter in their basements. there they do weekly water changes, siphoning excess food and taking care of the fish. then they re-strart their ponds in the spring/summer. no shed, unless its heated. up here, that shed might collapse to snowfall or would freeze the water surface and the fish become like the frozen caveman.

Cute ;)
You/your mom could get about 5+ rosy red minnows, they wouldn't get stunted and die like goldfish, and they look kinda of like small comets from above.
HTH :)

i like that idea and she might go for it. ill run it by her! thanks!

With that many plants there really isn't any reason to have fish, since you can't see them anyway. Unless you want them for mosquito control. In that case, rosy red minnows are supposed to be even better than mosquito fish for eating mosquito eggs.

actually, what seems to be crowded is perfect for fish as they give the animals cover from birds (hawks and others especially- can throw the owl in as well as my folsk live next to a field). so its really quite nice. like, for mosquito control she bought some sort of floating thing that slowly breaks down into small particles that supposedley drive away those dam insects. its wqorked-no trouble with them and we live like a stones thro from wet lands where theres like swarms of them! good idea on the fish though! thanks!:)

it looks good, but you may want to thin the floating plants out a bit to make sure the ones below have enough light.

lol, only plants below are anacharis and they are THRIVING! like limited light as the plants are dense on the surface and the pond is beneath a tree. lol, theres like limited sunlight, but all is well!
