My whisper 40 just started getting REALLY LOUD and i dont think i can take it i might just turn it off for the night. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do to silence it?

My whisper 40 just started getting REALLY LOUD...

Those drive the water via a magnetic impeller, right? If so, break down the filter to see if some grit has gotten into the impeller's chamber.

Yea i just discovered that and i think the problem is the impeller is to loose on the rod causing it to vibrate if i could say, how do i tighten this, any ideas?

I checked mine, the rubber band is holding the shaft in the black bottom piece in the intake tube.

Petsmart sells replacement impeller, shaft assemblies for ~$6-7.

First off, tap it. Sometimes my whisper 20 makes a rattling sound but I tap the cover and it goes away. If that didn't work, turn off the filter, take out the tube, and reset it inside the impeller thing tightly. If the previous did not work, take out the tube and inspect the impeller to see if anything is lodged anywhere. Again, if the previousdid not work, take apart the whole filter and wash out the inside of the filter casing with a hose to get rid of any sand or grit in the impeller hole thingy. And of course put the media in a bucket of tank water.

If the last one did not work, call Tetra.
