I am running two power filters a 60 and 30 on my 55 gallon tank. I changed the cartridge in the 60 about a week ago and i noticed that the water pressure was coming out a bit weaker now, and the cartridges are only a week old. There is also water coming out of the middle opening where the tube comes up from the tank, anybody ever have this problem??? The intake tube is not clogged but i dont know if there may be a clog somewhere else.

It sounds like the water is by passing the cartridge. The carbon cartridge may need to be cleaned. The white fiber that holds the carbon does not take long to get grosse fast I used to clean mine weekly with water changes. I think that will take care of your problem. You can spray it off in the sink and put it back in. The foam needs to be cleaned monthly But use TANK WATER to clean the foam.

Yeh, use tank water to clean everything so you don't kill your bacteria. Another thing with the Whispers is that they can get clogged internally in those pipes. So, pull out the intake/outflow pipe and take it apart. Rinse it well. You can even pull off the knob which controls high/low water flow, then pull out the impeller and clean that area. (Often little bits of plants get clogged in there).

I also drain the whole thing and twist off the motor compartment and use a small brush to clean in there. Algae can clog these filters pretty easily...

well, if the water is overflowing the tube, you don't have any blockage in the tube, because obviously the pump is still bringing plenty of water INTO the filter. your floss is more than likely clogged/gunked up. i would take the floss out and clean it, also, don't stuff your floss with too much carbon (if you use any at all, i don't).

I do have the knob turned all the way up so that is not the problem, yeah i do have carbon in the filters, I will try and wash the filter with some tank water and clean out the tubes and see if that helps. thanks

the way those filters are built, the only thing that could cause heavy overflow is an obstruction between the filter pump housing and the media, or an obstruction in the media. dirty tubes won't cause this, neither would the flow regulator, those will just cause reduced flow overall.
