I'd bet on tiny fanworms. I get tons of them in the areas I don't scrape regularly. Look like hard little coils about a millimeter or two across. Because they're so tiny, it's often hard to see the fan.

I tried googling but only come up with the large species fan worms like feather duster.
Are they pests or ok in the tank? Thanks.
Here's a marginal shot I took some time last year. It is now also in the hitchhiker sticky. It's about 2 mm across, and the fan is not extended. Hard to see even when it is.

They little tube-worm like things? With a hard shell that sticks onto the glass? I razor mine off every month, not sure if i want them or not.... simply because they are unattractive
