Are the eggs of Angel fish sensitive to light? The reason that I ask is that my angels have spawned 4 times, once in their own tank, and 3 times in their own breeding tank. Since I moved them into the breeding tank, all but a few of the eggs have survived. Water parameters are perfect, the only difference that I can think of is the light in the breeding tank is brighter. I'm really puzzled as their first spawning yielded in excess of 150 babies...

If the breeding tank is a bare tank, they may be sensitive to their reflection on the bottom. Some dark paper put underneath the bottom glass should eliminate the reflection.

I would say that they don't need that much light, but it really shouldn't matter.
 
I doubt it has anything to do with light.
however, stress of moving may have affected them.

all but a few survived? eggs? or did all but a few turned white?

the breeding part ..as you well know..requires both parents to be healthy and ready.
immature males tend to be the problem as are immature females.
as they get older the quality of the eggs increases as does the motility and supply of the males sperm.

in the case of the first spawn..both may have been ready..the female with a large clutch of eggs and a male that had not had to fertilize before.

I would guess it could be the quality of the males sperm has decreased due to the deman\d. give it time for the angels to mature.

I have a pair that it's hit and miss with ..the last spawn was pretty successful..
it varies from spwan to spawn ith the young fish.
 
thats great advice and i think that is probably the most likely cause. they have been spawning every 14 days, so it is very likely i guess. Thanks for your help and advice
 
Several years ago I was able to get a pair to breed once and I let them take care of the young. I guess I never saw the eggs every 14 days because the babies or parents must have munched on the new eggs. Sadly I had to move and give them away when the babies were about quarter sized. Really neat to watch the parents care for the young, though.
 
pretty typical every 12-20 days..sometimes they may go ona dry spell for a month or two.

it depends as the spawn takes a lot out of the fish..and they may need to heal.
