white spots ich??? using tetra lifeguard..goldfish filtration questions ASAP

Since you don't know exactly what it is, I would continue trying the treatment you are using to see if that helps, but I personally would try water changing about 50% each day or every other day since clean water can be a huge helping factor with disease. Like I said, the pics are a little hard to see, but it looks like he may have a little fin rot going on, which is helped by keeping the water pristine. I wish I knew more about what it was. I am not great with disease diagnosis, but for now I would continue with that treatment and do water changes. If that doesnt help, maybe try and get a more specific diagnosis so that you can treat the specific illness. Good Luck.

well ash you are right....so dont say you are not good at diagnosing...its fin rot..i came home and now the chocolate and the black moor tails look like they went through shredders...so sad...the lifeguard says it covers that but i am going to treat for the specific now that i know what it is....so so i do a 50% water change and then use the med for fin rot...and how do i know if its really advanced because they say if its really advanced you should treat with antibiotics..i feel bad for them but atleast now i know what it is....could fin rot come on that fast i havent even had them for a week yet? today when i cleaned i did do a thourough cleaning of the gravel...and tommorow will do the same......thanks for all your help.

Hmm, well, I have heard of a lot of people having success getting rid of fin rot by just keeping super clean water if it's not too advanced, but if it is advanced I would think that it needs to be treated. The most common thing I see people treat fin rot with is maracyn in combination with maracyn II, and usually they say to do a 50% water change before the treatment. I have never treated this disease, so I am pretty inexperienced. This is just what I have seen people have succeess with. There are some people on AC that are REALLY good at diagnosis and treatment that might be able to help you more than I can. You might even want to PM Mel_20_20 if she is around. She is REALLY good with fish disease, diagnosis, and treatment. I hope this helps. - Ash
