Who has ever had a tank failure?

I had a 20 split a seam awhile back. Seemed like I was vacuuming up about 200 the way it spilled! I was lucky that my floors are heavily varnished and I got most of it up with little swelling. After they dried about a week (it was summer) you couldn't tell anything happened.

I have 2 tanks with bulls-eyes on the corners and no problems. 1 is a 90 and the other is a 100.

You know how you cut glass? Scratch a line in it, even partway across, and then just a good tap snaps it. I WOULD worry about this. My advice would be to silicone another peice of glass over the bottom, and preferably one inside as well. I'm pretty sure the inside bottom of a tank is recessed (can't really pick up my 55 to look). Anyways, glass and silicone are pretty cheap, and you won't have a tank you're constantly worried about.

Wrote to Aqueon, and they insist it's nothing to worry about.

But being the over cautious guy I am, there is now a reptile tank in my possession. I'd rather spend the money on the peace of mind that comes with not having the slightest imperfection to worry about as I try to sleep.

who in the world has spare 55 gallons sitting around.

I'm jealous!

lol.. I have 3 55g, 1 90g, and a 46g laying around empty-- I have lots of tanks... but generally dont keep them all full at the same time

I bought a used 40g tank with a ful crack running the width of the base glass of the tank. needless to say it was very cheap and my first tank about 15 years ago. I cut a pieace of acrylic to fit the bottom and sealed around the crack then all around the base internal seem. The tank never leaked and i sold it on when i upgraded.

I have recently bought a 100g second hand that was used for trops. it is 12mm plate glass. It is currently full with no probs but i am worried it will burst over my new hardwood floor. Any suggestions?
