Who has used Bio Spira?

Did you have luck with it? Since all of my fish recently died, I've been doing 20% water changes every day for a few days and I'm sure I'm going to lose a good bit of my beneficial bacteria. Anyway, I found a store that is right down the road from me that carries Bio Spira. In addition, he has impeccable fish. Not a single dead fish, even in the feeder fish tanks. They are all vibrantly colored and seem really healthy, so I think I'm going to give him some business.

I'm interested in doing some neon tetras, so I might start by adding some of them with some Bio Spira and then go from there. What do you think?
 
well i used it and it worked for me
but i used it with a newly established tank
im not sure how it will do with a tank that had fish in it already
you are supposed to put it in when you add fish

I also used 3oz for my 55g.

I had fish in the tank, and my nitrites kept rising, I had to do 50% a day changes just to keep even.

I skipped one day, wondering if it would once again double ( I hadn't feed the fish in 4 days by this point), and it did...

I ran out and but in the bio-spira... within 24 hours (as stated) I had 0 nitirites...

It works wonders.
 
I used it in a partially cycled 10 gal tank with 4 danios. It brought the ammonia and nitrites to zero in a day.

You should add it to the tank when you're putting in your new fish since it is essentially the beneficial bacteria your tank needs. If you add it on Monday and get fish on Wednesday it won't work well if at all since it needs the ammonia from the fish/food to work.

Also, you can put in your full load of fish as long as you're using the full dose of bio-spira. Remember that you really can't overdose it. Any extraneous bacteria will simply die off from lack of food.
 
I used Bio-Spira in a new 90 gallon set up with a full (really full) fish load- the thread detailing the experience is right here.

It handled the ammonia really well, but fell short when the nitrites spiked- days 7 through 10 were the worst. I changed 25% per day on those days and got through it ok.

Later on it was suggested that adding another package of Bio-Spira around the second week may have helped- I was fully cycled by then so didn't try that approach.

You must test daily- whenever you think you're ok is when things will go wonky on you.
As long as you have test kits and use them daily I'd say go for it.
 
Well, I got 4 Danios last night to start everything up again and added some Bio Spira. It seems to be working well. The guy told me to come see him at the beginning of next week and he'll do a thorough water test for me and if all looks good, I'm going to add some neons, and eventually I might do some Rummy nose tetras as well.
 
I also used Bio-Spira to cycle my 6 gallon betta tank. Like Cearbhaill, I also experienced high nitrites after awhile and had to do daily water changes till it came down (like 1 to 1 1/2 weeks of water changing).

All I can say is to test, test and re-test frequently, because the nitrites will sneak up on you...
