Why Animals Don't Have Rights

Animal rights... depends on how you define it. Animals deserve to be treated with some level of respect and honor, and should not be mistreated. They have just as much a "right" to live on this planet as we do, and those who mistreat them for whatever reasons should not be allowed to keep animals. So yea, animals do have the "right" to be tereated as living creature, whether that it defined as a right or not is beyond me. That aside, some 'animals' blurr the line between dumb animal or beast and smart, possibly sapient life form (Elephants and Dolphins come to mind, as well as the Great Apes and possibly octopusses) but that's a whole 'nother can-o-worms right there.

I'm pretty sure planet of the apes was the result of animal rights going too far. And bad writing...and bad acting...at least in the case of the remake...but mainly animal rights.

Even animal welfare has no place in a legal debate, for two very important reasons. #1 it is a very subective term, subject to ones feelings and emotions. #2 The consequences of running afoul of such laws are a deprivation of liberty and/or property, and feelings and emotions are no basis for depriving someone of either.
 
Here's my challenge: Define "right" and tell me whence (or by whom) they come.
since this is a legal question i think its been pretty clear at least here in the states.....

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
Animals deserve to be treated with some level of respect and honor, and should not be mistreated.
but respect and honor and even mistreatment in many cases is subjective.... some people think its abuse to have a big dog with out a big yard.... some think they should be treated as equals to humans.... each person has their own person level of what they think mistreatment is.

Hello Travis! I told you I was going to post this, it just took a bit longer than I had anticipated. As far as controversial well of course, but I'd rather be banned again than give someone sound reason to call me dishonest. My point exactly. Personal opinions are not a good reason for legal punishment.
 
Both, since while how to treat animals is and should be philosophical, it has been made political.

Uhhm, if it comes down to me or the animals, I'm exercising my right to eat animals. IMO, I have more rights to live on this planet than animals do. We spend billions of dollars to save animals from extinction, bad homes, and etc every year, and what have they done for us? If it came right down to it, all animals have the right to do is be dinner....

There are just so many animals on earth, that I am not forced to eat them all at this time.
