Why Animals Don't Have Rights

FWIW - Humans, if you count all genus of them, have been around for 150,000+ years. A ball-park date of 190-170,000 B.C. was the appearance of what is called mtaDNA translated to Mitochondrial DNA that is passed on only among women and can be traced back to what is called Mitochondrial Eve. This is at the end of the homo erectus period and the beginning of the homo sapien era. Homo erectus actually goes back approx 1.8 million years. Homo habilis preceeded them starting about 2.5million B.C.

yes, its a primitive society, but that doesnt make us better than them. us "modern" humans' immune systems have been devolving over the last few million years, since some caveman dropped a slab of mammoth meat into his fire, ate it, and said it tasted good. if every carnivore on earth ate cooked meat for 10 million years, they wouldn't be able to eat raw meat without threatening their health. those "stupid people" have a better chance of survival at the end of the world than we do, simply because they can do things we cant. the aliens in the movie Avatar win the war, and they are definitely primitive.
Work on your reading comprehension. I didn't say primitive people were stupid. I said that in a primitive society stupid people rarely live long. You do understand the difference? And you do understand that Avatar was only a movie, right, and that movies aren't real, right?

What I will admit is that my emotions generally gel nicely with those values. However, I think the values stand on their own without emotion. In cases where my emotions are not in agreement with my values, I would hope that I would act with my values rather than emotions.
Ok Aaron I'll agree to disagree, but I would add one thing. Should you decide to run for elected office I see a bright future for you!:)

Spiny eels are not eels yet are still referred to as such.

I think this is a wonderful point.

I'd rather not jump into the whole subject because let's face it, I will never change your opinion and you will never change mine. No point in getting riled up about it.
Exactly, after all this is no place for emotions, right Travis?

Well Travis I give up. I really tried. Print these pages, put them away for 25 years and then re-read them. Hopefully I'll be around to hear what you think then.

A movie comparison? That doesn't have any basis in reality.

I don't necessarily think that modern humans are 'better' so to speak, but our quality of life is much better.

Yes, and that may actually be a smarter way of living, so to speak, because their world won't fall into pieces when the oil runs out and WW3 begins...
So, when are you donating your computer along with the rest of your belongings to a 'save the world' foundation and moving to a 3rd world country?

Or is this a hypothetical in which we can talk about how great something is without actually planning to embrace it as our own? Grass is always greener, I say.

Do you seriously think the world would fall apart if we ran out of oil, if that were even possible? Technology is moving us past oil, maybe not quickly, but it's moving. There's a myriad of possible end-times scenarios, and technology isn't the cause behind them, it's mankind. Technology might be a vehicle to achieve his goals, but even still, a cave-man society is just as capable/likely of destroying themselves, just on a smaller scale.

I'd just like to say that I'm about to head to a BBQ, where I will eat many tasty animals, slaughtered for my nourishment and the benefit of my taste buds.

But if you ever do anything to bring harm to my fish... you'll wake up dead tomorrow.

Depends on the historian. Seems to early for them to agree on official labels, but the Cold War is quite possibly going to get the WW3 consideration.

Ah, i see.

Sacasm doesn't become you any more then it becomes me.

Same to you, we just don't seem to understand each other... and can you call me Siv instead?

No just possable, but definite. Factual. Oil is a Non-Renewable-Resource, and within MY lifetome we could very well run out. Within my childrens lifetime? Who knows, qwe could have alreayd gone extict by then. We only get one chance. We used up all of earths natural resources. There is no more coal to fuel and industrial revolution, no more oil to recreate the automobile age, no more metals to build skyscrapers out of, not in easy access. When/if human civilazation falls, it will never rise again. We get one chance, and that chance is during our lifetomes. So yes, if it means my generation can NOT be dead by the time I'm 30, then yes, I will give up that PC (Though it uses nuclear power, which is cool), yes I will give up that car (already saving for a hybrid/electric/Preus), and yes, I may even give up my precious Big mac Meal from McDonals (Golden Arches rule!). So there, happy? Now if only more people would do that...

lol, amen to that!
