Why aquarium dabblers suck

Care sheets are freely available in PetSmart and Petco, and likely, any other chain pet store. Those being referred to and offered are the beginning of the education process. The customer not deigning to acknowledge the documents' existence is the end of the education process in far too many scenarios.

I can understand that. The same is true with the handouts offered in the health industry on particular the information pamphlet included with prescription drugs. Those documents contain information that will save your life, and yet people will feel like its not important enough for them to try and read them and understand them.

This is starting to sound familiar. We are witnessing the rise of the EULA generation.

I'll bet you don't have any idea what you just agreed to. For all you know you just agreed to let somebody spy on you via your web cam in exchange for letting you install that crappy free software.

This site has an EULA and is a great example of how it is ignored. I doubt that it has been read any more than by 1/3 of the members of this site. A quick skimming of threads will enforce the thought of it not having been read. I know I am guilty of overestimating my abilities in certain areas like the quote mentions. I don't know of anyone that is not guilty of it at some point. "When all else fails, read the directions", is the common phrase.

Misinformation on fishkeeping goes back many years and product advertisement doesn't help. The most common illustration seen is of a goldfish in a bowl. When that is in the public's mind all the time, it is difficult to disuade the acceptance of it. From said illustrations, people want cute and colorful and don't bother to learn how wrong those illustrations might be. We cheap out on our pet care yet spend big dollars on useless baubles that do nothing for the pet.

Welcome to reality.
