why are these things in fish food?

yeah my hamster food doesn't have ethoxyqin i buy the hagen bag the big blue one and i noticed it doesn't have ethoxyquin. at least its not listed. Anyway i noticed all the brands of fish food i have list ethoxyquin as a preservative. Not much I can do there. I'm not gonna make my own fish food.

which type by hagen doesn't have it? thanks onikun! (buying online, i can't always check ingredients, not aful list anyway)

its big and blue. err just says hamster food or something. blue with a bit of yellow. contains corn, sunflower seeds and some bird seed and pellets. thats it or something like that. i'll take a picture later if i can, feeling kinda lazy right now

oops! i didn't realize hagen made hamster food...go ahead and feel lazy. never mind.....and, i was thinking hikari! double oops :coffee2:

I'd never even heard of ethoxyquin until I read this thread. Fortunately, after doing the rounds and reading lots of fine print, I can safely say that none of my animals are being inadvertently fed any ethoxyquin, whatever it is.

Is it really all that common in pet foods? O_o I'm using the Big Al's house brand flake food, and it doesn't list ethoxyquin on the ingredients. It does, however, list "various vitamins and minerals" at the very end-- I wonder what exactly that means. o_o

I think someone ought to contact jungle labs to try to get their ingredients for their medicated fish food.

and someone else should try to get a better answer from Hikari on why MSG is in their foods.

If you contact jungle labs and ask for a Material Safety Data Sheet. MSDS They will send you one listing all the details of the product.

I find ALL of their products irritating because they either list a couple of ingredients or no ingredients at all.

Makes me wonder what they are hiding.

msg causes headaces

i dont know about food additives causing headaces but reading this thread hurts my head. i went to the new england aquarium today yeah and i noticed they fed their fish fresh vegtables(i also noticed them feeding smaller tanks in the hospital area with average flake foods 'that prodably was loaded with additives). i know alot of pet(dog and cat) owners that feed their pets homemade and or natural diets. well just like the rest of you we understand that diet is a very important subject and from the looks of these lengthy replys we all seem to have given it alot of thought.
