Why can't I keep neons?

Well I am not sure if it was the skunk loaches or the black skirt tetras. I know it was one of them because on close examination some neons had really nipped tails. I removed the tetras as well as the loaches, and the neons are all still alive. I am trying the tetras back in there to see how they do. The loaches are going to go in with tiger barbs. Serves them right:) Thanks for you advice. Hopefully the next group I get I have all survivors.

best of luck to ya i can't keep em either, always die off.

Neons are not a very robust fish in my neck of the woods. I think they all come from the same supplier because I have difficulty WITH EVERY BATCH I GET... no matter which store they come from. I have returned many deaders to petsmart where I got my last batch because they replace them and they nearly replaced them all. I still have a dozen or so but this is definitly my last time around with them. It'll be Cardinals from here on out.

Well so far so good I have seven survivors. I thought I only had six but number seven was hiding really well. After removing the aggresors he showed himself. Yay! And they seem to be doing good. One that had his tail nipped severely is doing good, but I am not sure his tail will grow back. It is hard to see if it was just the fin part nipped or if it actually got nipped so close it is permanant. I am going to wait a while and see how they do. If they all last another week or two then I am going to try to add a few more. Eventually I would like to get to about a dozen. If these seven don't make it, I am officially done with neons.

I got tetras a couple of days ago... hope they live longer this time. Last time, I had about 5 last me close to a year.

I'm beginning to think strength is not in numbers when it comes to schools of these fish. I haven't had much luck at all with them and angels.
