Why do light manafactuers hate 30" tanks?

Tell me about it, I researched for weeks and in the end, I settled for a 30 inch coralife fixture. Are you doing a planted tank?

same here, alas the coralife piece is, well, not so great. Very very hard to get the 2nd bulb in tightly once the first is in place. :( Wish I had know about that eBay item you cite Squid, I would have gone for that even at the shorter length. That kind of wattage will, imho, light up even a 29's annoying depths quite nicely, including ends and corners. In fact I may wind up getting one anyway and put the coralife away for the day I get a shorter tank.

but in answer to your question, 30-in tanks are just rare so there isn't much demand for lights of that length. Thus no incentive for very many manufacturers to go into the market. alas.

Yeah looking to try my hand at high light high tech planted, so far I've only had low and medium light low tech.

I have a 30" coral life T5NO on my other 29, agree bulb changes can be a pain, have also read the starters don't last long but so far no problems there.

Not sure if the legs are removable on that fixture, they say flippable but I dont think that means you can mount it on the back of the tank.. Oddysea has a similar x4 fixture but with the pull out legs like coral life for a few bucks less then this fixture.. I know people who lovem and people who hatem oddysea's customer service is non existent so you have to hope you get a good unit. This ebay one maybe no better but I'm trying to avoid spending $150+

I have a 29 gallon high with the same coralife fixture. It's a nice fixture but the bulbs are a PITA to replace. My 20 long non planted uses a 24 inch led light, so yea, I think the light manufacturers hate 30" tanks. I think I remember even aquatraders.com doesn't even sel 30" fixtures.

Other then coral life, current usa seems to be one of the few others to sell 30" fixtures but for they're pricey for the x4 bulb. I guess I'll just hope the x4 24" does a decent job.

I almost bought that zoo med one instead of my coral life, doesn't use the 30" bulbs though. 48w out of T5HO's I guess would be about borderline for demanding high tech, I'm going to roll the dice on one of the cheap 4 bulb fixtures, I know it probably wont have the best reflectors and all that but should be good enough for plants.
