why do they have to ban this fish!!!!

Holy cow!! $3000 for a fish....wish I had an extra 3 grand kicking around to spend on a fish.............

Are any of them native to North America? I ask, because there is a place north of Panama City called Morrison Springs that is loaded with what I would swear are Aro's. They're absolutely huge! They're the only fish you see down there, which makes sense - a 3-4 ft fish must eat a lot. They don't seem to be too afraid of divers, though you can rarely get within about 6-10 ft of one. They stay in the open water. I have never seen one in the cavern. The ones I remember seeing are all silver, and look like the pics I have seen of Asians.

Whenever you ask the guy about them he says something like "They're like Chinese Carp", or some vague answer usually having to do with the Far East.

The thing that makes me wonder though, the water in this place is about 67* year-round. Can they deal with water that cold?

If they are Aro's, um, well, this place feeds into the Choctawhatchee River... Hmmm...

They are banned because of irresponsable fishkeepers releasing them into the wild and such.

I don't think anyone would dump a $3000 fish back into the wild. Asian aros are illegal because they are an endagered species.

Correct. For what its worth, we have a $6000 AA-grade gold-head down at my friend's shop right now that I am seriously considering.

Like this one, and from the same farm, actually:

i was going to say if someone is dumping this fish in a river, i will be there first in line with scuba gears and nets ready!

so the fish was banned because it is endangered and they dont want to encourage the locals to overfish for profit? somehow i dont think that's working at all.
