Why does my Plec have scratch like marks?

I have recently noticed my Plec has white scratch like marks on his belly. What are they? Are they literally scratches or is it something more serious?

That does not look normal to me, any decorations in the tank that he may be rubbing up against? What are the other tank mates?

 

[Lois]

Nothing different to the normal ornaments that have been in there before. Unless he has tried to get in somewhere that was too small for him. He seems OK in himself.

Other tank mates are 2 Cory's, a catfish then the rest are mid or top water swimmers like mollies etc.

I don't see any cave or decor that appears too small in your pic. Any chance there are some sharp edges inside the 'vase'?

They do look like scratches to me. Some of your decorations look like they could be scratchy if he graze on them. I doubt it's your plastic plants.
