Sorry AFG, but you are mistaken. Don't read hobby articles which are all too often written without any basis in fact, go to the scientific and technical literature to find out the facts. You are boosting mythology, which is rampant in this hobby anyway, and to me that is harmful, not helpful. There is a massive irreconcilable difference between fact and opinion.
And when I say something shocking and contrary to what everyone already "knows", it is generally because what everyone already "knows" is popular urban myth. Exactly like "non-iodized salt should be added to all FW tanks", and its corrollary that "iodized salt at common usage levels will kill fish"; or that "activated carbon will dump the material it has captured". Myths, one and all. But don't take my word for it, research the facts yourself. It involves a bit of work, but you might find it worthwhile.
