why fish lose color

wow thats sad that they do that to fish... if only they looked like that naturaly you could have a fish tank full of friut loops haha
thanks for everyones response and here goes the answers to all I have had the parrot fish four about three yrs and the water parameters are good and that is what my fish looked like when I bought them maybe they where dyed can't remember but I thought it was the age of them but wanted to be sure and thank for all the responses this is a great place the ask questions and get answers and get help when needed thank again
thats why were hereI think your fish are stressed. Fish normally lose colour when stressed or have an insufficient diet. What are you feeding them? Also are they pale all the time or only after you turn on the light?
Ahah I remember seeing some of those poor dyed parrot fish.
