I have never had BBA in nearly 30 years of keeping aquariums. Recently I added a few Anubias from the LFS to my tank and suddenly I had a BBA problem. As suggested in many threads I used Flourish Excel at a normal dose 5ml per 10 galons to start 1ml per gallon each day since. It has been 4 days. Most of the BBA is gone and my pants are turning the best shade of green I have ever seen in my low light low tech planted aquarium. Why is this so effective?

Excel has an algaecide in it too.

The copper percentage is too little to kill shrimps. I was afraid at first to dose my planted 70 gallon which houses 12+ shrimp currently. so to begin I only used it once a week instead of the recommended two times. then seeing the growth within two weeks i upped the dosage a little, careful not to OD on it. Cherry shrimps still thriving

Thanks for the info. BBA is gone. I had ben dosing at half the recommended dose recently. I"ll keep it on hand for future flare ups but see no further need at this time. The plants did perk up a bit, but I don't like to add chemicals and risk OD if not absolutely needed.
