Why Is It So Hard?

why is it so hard to just answer the question asked?

thread after thread i read one person asks a question because they care about their tanks occupants. they want to get it right and they have to confess they need help. then a people post back things like how cruel or ignorant the first person is and points out everything theyre doing wrong. some of them have their heads so far up their ar$e...

there are no experts just beginners with more experience. most of those 'experts' got that way through their fair share of mistakes and stuff ups. or their parents made the ***** for them. im sure even amano has stuffed up lots to become the world famous guru that he is.

why is it ok to go on about how cruel it is placing some fish in too small a tank but most people here seem happy to put a beta in 1/2g or less?

i know most of you are just trying to help. but what is so hard about just answering the question asked? And wording your responses in a less confrontational way?

i dont care if i get ignored or banned because of this post but some of the so called help is so heavily laced with criticism they should just not post.

all abuse, retorts and comments are most welcome.

I think everyone means well, but some forget that everyone has to start somewhere. I know I effed up when I started (oscar in a 10), but I still have that fish mostly thanks to forums like this one.

I AM NOT the voice of reason....I am the voice no one wants to hear. The simple truth is this, I care more about your fish than your feelings. I'm not here to make friends. I limit the amount of time I spend in the forums for that very reason.

BTW, I can't name a single person on this site who condones keeping bettas in 1/2 g or less. Please, tell me who they are so I can hunt them down

I think that many times (but probably not all of the times) it seems like people are reacting over-the-top to someone, its because we at AC have seen this person make dumb mistakes before, ask about it after the fact and then refuse to do anything to remedy the situation. So it may seem like a newbie mistake to someone new to the boards, but in reality is not.

I agree that noone here wants to hear about betas being kept in tiny containers - if its ever asked about, 99% of people will voice that its not optimal. I know that someone around here does do this though, its in their sig for all to see.

Some people give "additional" information when answering a question because they want to inform the poster of important information about the fish/tank that the poster may not know. These people are trying to be helpful.

Other people give additional information because they are mean-spirited and like to humiliate newbies, &/or they care more about coming across as knowledgeable than human. Many of these people feel that their way is the superior way, and everyone who doesn't follow their rules is an idiot. These people should just be ignored.

I'm sure I've been guilty of coming across as condescending at times, and it seems to me that the longer I keep fish, the more I realize there really is no 'right' way of doing things, only different ways. Things I was so certain about in the past now seems like crap to me . I'm still learning too.

I would have to say I agree with newbie. I have posted the same question here 3 times in different threads and NO ONE has answereed it. I feel that by asking questions, I am showing that I want to learn. I am of the belief that no question is a dumb question. The reason I come here is because my lfs is 1 hour away and they have 3 people working there who all say a different thing! What to believe? They want $ most of the time and will sell you ANYTHING if you have no clue. I have, however, found many nice people here in the forum who have helped me a lot, especially in teh chat rooms. They answered ever question I had with patience.

a betta would live very happily in there (if you look it says it is 8g) and bettas and live hapily in 1/2g jars so yer

you did not just say bettas live happily in 1/2 gallon jars... My betta has a 10 gallon tank and I still think he feels insulted at the limited amount of space given to a fish of his emense stature.


BTW, to add my own vastly overated and totally ignorant opinion of the matter of the question at hand: I think the following response to sugestions ussually ticks off the people trying to be helpful--

"Well I have had my oscar and Jack Dempsey in a 10 gallon for 4 years now and they are 3 inches long and they school together and are perfectly happy and I never do water changes, so you guys obviously don't know what you are talking about."
