After not seeing my largest bamboo shrimp for a day or so, I just saw him hanging out on my filter pipe... BRIGHT RED. I mean neon red. He looks like a cooked lobster! I read that these shrimp could change their color, but I never expected something so drastic.

I just want to make sure that everything's ok. He looks really pretty. I'm putting a crappy pic in, so you guys can see how red he is.

Mine change their color all the time. Sometimes I am not sure that I have only 2 in my tank. They range from really pale with a white inside a black stripe to every bit as red as yours. It would be interesting to know why.

ok, thanks. worried that something bad was happening :)

Just did some quick research and apparently they turn dark red when they are well fed and happy. Good job.

I have two....and one is almost always neon like that, and the other stays pretty brown most of the time even though they hang out and eat in the same filter flow, same water params. No clue on why, but they both seem fat and sassy to me :D.

They will also display red as a sign of dominance over the other bamboo shrimp

haha i was wondering the same thing about mine! lol
she was in my tank for like a day, molted, then turned like cherry shrimp red and stayed like it... So i named her ember :D
