Everytime I turn off the lights to my tank, my clownfish will get a bunch of white spots on his body in addition to a white film. Once I turn on the light and leave it on for over 12 hours, the white stuff will be gone. What's causing this?

Forget it. You people say this site is so helpful. How so? How can you help if you can't even read and understand a post??? I SAID IT'S WHITE SPOTS AND A WHITE FILM! Asking me these things do not help. If you don't know, don't bother replying.
Maybe because of the fact that there are MANY different white spots and films that could be affecting him. You were VERY vague in your description so what Orion asked was for more info on WHAT the spots and coating looked like. Your lucky she didn't ask you for tank size, water parameters, tankmates, foods, etc which would normally be asked. You failed to give us more info than a clownfish lights off spots and coat lights on 12 hours gone. That will not get you answers. I would be willing to guess the coating is excess slime production maybe because you have a nocturnal predator or something is wrong with the lighting, or there is some kind of disease it is fighting and you can only see it when the lights go off. If you stick with this attitude NO one will give you responses. Orion did not ask anything out of the ordinary and she actually forgot a lot of questions, so don't go blaming anyone except for yourself for not giving more information. Had you given all the info that has been mentioned in the above posts you would more than likely of had a person respond correctly the first time. Anyway, hope this helps.

Don't worry, with that attitiude thrown at me, even if I do know I won't bother to reply. I have no patience for people who show up, ask a vague question without providing much information and then snap at me for trying to assist.

Listen dude, Everyone here on this site is extreemly helpful. I have been here for seveal months and have learned more in the time I have been on this forum then in my 2 years of being an aquarist. OrionGirl is one of the nicest peeps on this site and she is in the right in asking you additional questions about your clown.

Being vauge in life will always get you into more trouble than providing details.

looks like to me that orions reply was a good reply by asking questions had you answered gave you an answer as to why and what you could do.
people do have bad days; especially when they think their fish are dieing. but i have realised this forum is here to do their best to try to help.
