Why won't my grindal worms multiply??

My cultures never get to be harvestable size and I've had them for a long time now. I have tupperware containers with one of those green scouring pads glued over a breathing hole. One is potting soil, one is peat and one is coco fiber. The coco fiber produces the most worms but it's still hardly any.

I feed a variety of foods. Expired fish flakes, left over bird pellets (multi grain), oatmeal, veggies and fruit.

My house is warm (around 78 degrees) but I keep them on the tile floor of my bathroom, which is usually dark. I can move them to the basement.

Is it just too warm?

I had them breeding like crazy over the winter (my house was usually around 65 at that time). Now during the summer I've found them to be not nearly as productive (House is around 78 like yours). I was thinking it was the warmer temps. as well.

When I had them, they definitely slowed down in the summer. Articles on the Internet also suggest this. I'd try putting them on the floor of your basement.

Thanks. They're been there for a few days now. They already look less sluggish and more seem to have come out to eat.

I keep my live worms in a styro box with a frozen water bottle. The bottle is changed every day with a new one. It keeps them dark and cool all the time. I used to keep them in the fish room and put them in the fridge over night once a week. That worked very well, too.
