Wich power head should I use?

What brand would be the best for a 40 gallon fresh water aquarium? I heard something about maxi-jet running on a tube from a underground filter. What if I dont' have an underground filter just a HOB? Can I still use it to create waterflow?
 
Hello, I am newer to the fish hobby so someone else may be able to help more but I will give you my thoughts. I have hear alot of people state that Penguin Powerheads are good ones. I have 2 Penguin 660R units that can be used with or without an undergravel system. If using without an UGF they include some brackets to hang the powerheads. The ones I use can also be setup to reverse the flow in and undegravel system. They pump out 170gph reveresed and don't seem to create alot of heat or to much current. They also include and large prefilter that is needed when using them for the RUGF or if just using them alone. I use 2 and I have a 20g tank with a HOB. This seems to be the best combo. I was able to pick mine up at my local PetSmart for $19 each after I went online and printed out what there site was selling them for. It is weird there store price was about $20 more and they price matched it from the site. I hope this helps you alittle.
