My LSF has had for soome time some brazilian and peruvian scalaresfor sale of which i puchased 6. They also had what they called demerilii does anyone know how to tell if they could be leopoldi ? They have several are they worth a try ?

my suggestion is for you to look for a picture (image) search for 'wild angelfish'
you can even search the species.
it is difficult to describe the difference but much easier to see.

http://www.angelsplus.com/

has a pretty good description.

btw, if I could get more wild angels I would get them.

they are the same fish

dumerilii is the old name for leopoldi. they dont come around that often, but make sure that they are really leopoldi. sometimes pet stores will label them as a rare variation fo scalare and charge alot of money for them.

FYI, wild stock tend to command higher prices.
the problem is you could get F1 wilds..these would be 1st generation wild spawn.
as long as they keep the line wild they tend to command higher prices.
not uncommon to find wilds selling for $20-$25 ea for small - medium
leopoldi can reach $15-$20
