I'm thinking about getting an Albino Senegal Bichir for my 65 gallon tank, my new one. The future inhabitants are going to be angelfish, some yo yo loaches (or Burmese loaches), a possible Leopard Ctenopoma, and possibly some relatively large tetras (about 3 inches long). I've read that this species grows 10'' to 14''. I was wondering if it would eat these fish. I'm planning to have lots of plants (already have a few Amazon Swords), and driftwood will provide a lot of cover. It's not a breeder tank, it's 2 feet long. I'm wondering if this will be enough space for it, and I was wondering which fish it would try to eat. I was planning on handfeeding it with chopsticks or something to make sure it gets its food.

I'm kinda worried about it....

There's a good chance it'll try but I can't say it's a "for sure" thing. If the tank is 2 feet long then you've gotta re-figure your stocking :/

I doubt your tank is a 65 gallon if it is only 2 feet long, unless it is a cube tank possibly. But a 2 foot tank should never house a fish that gets 14"

Yeah something about that length is weird...a standard 65g is about 36"x18"x24"

I still wouldn't put a 14" fish in a tank with that short of a length, if that is the case. I'm not entirely sure what a reasonable adult size for this species is..

I love bichirs. I currently have three that are about 6". I had one that was about 10" previously. They are voracious eaters and will eat ANYTHING that they can get a hold of. Even if they can't swallow it, they will drag it around and kill whatever IT is. And yeah, 2 feet seems a little oddly sized, but if it is 65 gallons it should be ok with a couple larger fish. I have mine housed with 2 ghost knives and a clown knife.

A Bichir will eat anything it can swallow, but they're not aggressive. As far as keeping one in a 65 I don't see a problem. They're not an active fish by any means, so as long as you do the water changes required to maintain good water quality and keep it with suitable tankmates why not?

I have my Senegal in a 46 bf, with some harlequin rasboras, and some cories. Heavily planted. I've seen him snap at some cories when he first went in the tank, otherwise he's been perfectly fine.
