Yes. I agree that a micron filter will clear up the water some, but the Magmun cartridges are expensive, apx $9.00 ea. I have 2 of them. They clog up easly and I have not found a good way to clean them. I also suggest a diatom. I have 3 of them.
Vortex does claim the D1 and LX models can be run continously, but it is not necessary to do so. The diatomous earth is very inexpensive. It will also clean the water to a higher clarity, (apx. 1to 2 microns) it will remove parisites, un-disolved minerals, solid waist algae, and some dis-coloration (depending on what causes the dis-coloration.
As for causes for cloudiness measure the nitrate level of the water and the Hardness (not Ph) High nitrate levels with real hard water will cause cloudiness. If this is the case only a water softner system can remove the disolved minerals which are at the molecular level. Water changes are the only way to reduce the nitrate levels unless you add a jungle of water plants.
