will angelfish and platy get along

Hi

I am just thinking if angel fish would be agressive to platys or it would be ok to keep them together i have a 120 liter tank will that be big enough for the angles and platys and maybe some swordtails and guppies

I know from experience that angels really love platys & if you want to feed your angels expensive feeders, you can go with platys. But if you like platys, I don't think you should serve them up that way.

I wouldn't mix fish who enjoy vastly different water chemistry in the same tank. Platys like hard, alkaline water and angels like soft, acidic water.

yeah...stay tuned for a whole bunch of people disagreeing with me and talking about how fish adapt yada yada. Sorry but I will never change my mind about the notion that we should be adapting the conditions to the fish and never the other way around.

To be honest a 30g is small for even one angel overtime. You will be able to keep 1 to 2 angels for no more than a year before they start getting crowded. The get very tall. Before I gave my large male away that was 5yrs old his body was around 4 1/2" round, from caudal to dorsal fin he was around 9", and from tail fin to nose he was around 5 1/2". That is a big fish.

Last thought. One is what you could keep, and two would need a larger home in several years. If you get two and they are M and F say goodbye to all your other fish in a 30g.

I prefer a 29 to a 30 for angels as the 29 is taller.

but a pair will be ok in a 30 I currently have a pair of wild angels in a 29..I imagine the 30 may be a bit more cramped(vertically) and yes a larger tank may be more appropriate.

I also have a breeding pair of P Scalare in a 29 with a school of 6 black neons..they have been there for 2 years and the neons are still there even after several spawns.. tho they will seek cover (important) when the pair spawn(about once per month or two)

btw I do agree with echoofformless.. I personally prefer to keep my angels in softer water...as a result I do not keep platy's(which I feel prefer a bit harder water)
