Will aquarium salt affect my java ferns?

I've just found out that adding aquarium salt could pretty much ruin my javas - i only have two in my 13G tank, with no other plants as I wanted them to have all the stuff they'd need to thrive to themselves.

The fish in the tank are 3 fancy goldfish; a black moor, a calico fantail and an unusual fancy best described as a gold and black butterfly tail. They are only BABIES at the moment, cumulative length 7 and a half inches INCLUDING tail fins, the tank is only temporary until I can clear more space.

It is safe to say the javas are struggling with the constant nibbling, but I've heard that adding a plant the fish don't like to eat will discourage them to eat any plant in the tank? Or any other suggestions?

Salt treatment doesn't usually harm hardy plants like java fern, but if the salt is always in the tank it might. I am curious as well to hear why you are adding salt?
